The story of the Island House Hotel began in 1852 when it was a waterfront beach house, the first summer hotel on Mackinac Island ( Mich.), located between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. As tourism grew, the hotel moved in one block from the shoreline, and, by the 1890s the hotel was known as the Best Family Hotel. The Lake View Hotel, located on Mackinac Island near the Ferry Docks, is a distinctive and historical hotel only open from early spring to late fall.
